What is the construction and purpose of rims and tires?

Rims and tires are elements of the wheel assembly that connect the car to the road surface and carry loads while driving. What is the construction and function of centering rings?

Centering rings are mounting elements used between the hub and the rim when the rim's center bore diameter is larger than the hub diameter. They are used for correct wheel seating and to reduce the risk of vibration resulting from inaccurate centering. Their selection requires checking the inner and outer diameter and the material, as it depends on the specific rim and hub.

How to choose rims and tires for a specific car version?

It is best to compare the OEM number, diameter, width, ET, bolt pattern, and center bore with the data intended for the given car version. It is also worth checking the brake size, body type, suspension version, and the presence of TPMS sensors. For complete wheel sets, tire size compatibility on a given axle also matters.

What symptoms indicate a problem with a rim or wheel accessory?

Typical symptoms include steering wheel vibration, difficulties with balancing, uneven tire wear, or leaks at the tire-rim interface. In practice, it is also worth checking the condition of the edges, the surface near the bolts, the center bore, and the mounting elements. Incorrectly selected bolts, spacers, or rings can cause problems even when the rim itself looks correct.

What to pay attention to when mounting used rims and complete wheels?

Before mounting, compare the rim markings with the vehicle data, check the condition of the threads, contact surfaces, and mounting accessories. In the case of complete wheels, it is worth verifying pressure sensors, tire mounting direction, and set compatibility with the front or rear axle.
