What is the construction and purpose of alloy wheels?

Alloy wheels are wheel components mounted on the vehicle hub, on which the tire is seated. A typical wheel consists of a rim, a disc, a center bore, and mounting holes for bolts or studs. Its primary task is to transfer loads, keep the tire in the correct position, and maintain compatibility with the braking system and suspension. Depending on the car version, they differ in diameter, width, ET, and bolt pattern.

What are alloy wheels used for?

Alloy wheels are used to properly seat the tire and connect the wheel to the car hub. They influence car handling, braking efficiency, wheel balancing, and cooperation with pressure sensors. In addition to their technical function, they also have visual significance, as they determine the appearance of the entire vehicle. An incorrectly selected wheel can make tire mounting difficult, collide with the brake, or worsen wheel geometry.

What is the construction and function of the wheel center bore?

The wheel center bore is the part of the rim that centers the wheel on the vehicle hub. Its diameter must be compatible with the hub or adjusted using a centering ring. This element is responsible for the proper seating of the wheel and reducing vibrations while driving. In practice, it cooperates with mounting bolts, the hub surface, and the balancing of the entire wheel.

How to choose alloy wheels for a specific car?

It is best to compare the OEM number, diameter, width, ET, bolt pattern, and center bore diameter. It is also worth checking the body version, brake type, wheel condition, color, and any interchangeable numbers. If the car has TPMS sensors, you should verify the compatibility of the valve and the sensor mounting location.

What symptoms indicate that a wheel requires inspection or replacement?

Typical symptoms include steering wheel vibrations, balancing problems, uneven tire seating, and visible damage to the rim edge or mounting surface. It is worth paying attention to cracks, heavy abrasions, deformations, and signs of leaks at the valve. Each of these signs should prompt a check of the wheel's compatibility and technical condition.

How to take care of alloy wheels after mounting?

Regular washing removes brake dust, salt, and dirt that can degrade the coating's appearance. It is also worth checking the bolt tightening according to the manufacturer's recommendations, the condition of the valves, and tire pressure. During seasonal wheel changes, it is good to check the balancing and the contact surface of the wheel to the hub.
