What is the main function of the EGR valve?

The EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) valve is a component of the exhaust gas recirculation system that is responsible for redirecting part of the exhaust gases back into the combustion chamber to reduce NOx emissions.

How does the exhaust gas recirculation system work?

The EGR system opens the valve under certain engine operating conditions, which allows fresh air to be mixed with some of the exhaust gases and lowers the combustion temperature.
